REGGAE

In this lesson we will look at Reggae beats. Reggae is a Caribbean style from Jamaica. The interesting thing about Reggae is that often you don't emphasis beat one on the bass drum, almost the exact opposite of Rock music. This creates a very spacey groove, with lots of time in between the backbeats to add different subdivisions and fills.

You can have Reggae beats in both a straight and swung context. Here is an example of Reggae played with a straight 16th feel..

From here you could add in different 16th note groupings to fill out the groove. Make sure you add light and shade in terms of softer dynamics..
