In this lesson we will look at forming the basic jazz ride beat. Because jazz is often a very improvised music, it doesn't really use repetitive "beats" as such, however much of the vocab of ideas you develop can be born out of this basic ride pattern..
From here, place a naturally felt accent on 2 and 4 on the ride, this is the backbeat..
Next add the hihat "chick" on beats 2 and 4 also..
Also try adding the bass drum on all 4 beats, "feathering" on all 4 beats (playing softly)..
