CRESCENDO AND DECRESCENDO

   

In this lesson we will look at gradual increases and decreases in dynamics (volume). If an entire section is to be played at one volume then a single dynamic marking will br written, such as mf or mp. But if a gradual increase or decrease is needed we use crescendo and decrescendo.

CRESCENDO

A gradual increase, and it can be across any number of notes, or bars. Here is an example of a crescendo over one bar..

 

DECRESCENDO

A gradual decrease in dynamics over any number of notes or bars..
